RA Gene Discovery

The discovery by deCODE genetics, of a gene linked to disease variants in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), is a major step toward predicting predisposition toward the disease, possible ways to minimize serious joint damage, and identification of therapeutic targets for treatment intervention. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin diseases (NIAMS) is sponsoring a registry with four major academic institutions to evaluate Rheumatoid Arthritis in African Americans.
